My printer ran out of ink today so I reached for my stash only to find four yellows and no anything else! Does this mean my printer is braver than most? It never turns tail and runs… or does it mean it took its lumps, got some black and blue bruising but carried on? Either way, it is a brave printer indeed.
In the Message version of the Bible, Jesus called the disciples cowards and faint-hearts as they cowered in the bottom of their storm-tossed boat. (Matthew 8:26) Other versions use words like ‘timid and afraid’, and ‘of little faith.’
No matter how we look at it, Jesus was not a fan of fear, cowardice or especially, having only a little faith. After all, isn’t faith what our relationship with God is based on?
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. (Hebrews 1:1, NIV)
Printers reproduce what we tell them to. Are we God’s printers, reproducing in our lives what He tells us to at least 97 times in the NIV? You know… words like these in Luke 12:4
“I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more.” (Luke 12:4, NIV)
Prayer – Lord God, give us courage, the special kind found only through faith in You. Amen.
