Didn’t Say It

What do you do when you are credited with something that you didn’t say? Never have that problem? Pope Francis does, all the time and I doubt that he is alone. For instance, he did not give the speech… You can have flaws, etc. Now that is easy to check because the pope is a public figure, but what about you?

When someone insists that you said such and so, and you know you didn’t, what do you do?
Sometimes they hear you when you refute the claim, sometimes they don’t. They want to believe what they want to believe and you are stuck with it. Unsaid yet ‘overheard’ words have wrecked many a relationship.

God has the same problem with the Bible. God did not say:

God helps those who help themselves. (Aesop’s Fables)
Cleanliness is next to Godliness. (Babylonian proverb)
Money is the root of all evil. (It is the LOVE of money!)
Hate the sin and love the sinner. (Mahatma Gandhi)

Now, do we really know what God said?—only if we read the Bible for ourselves, folks; only if we read it for ourselves.

I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word. (Psalm 119:16, NLT)

Prayer- Lord, help us use the smarts you gave us to find out the truth for ourselves. Amen.
