The car was firmly planted in the ditch so I stopped to carefully offer help; (careful as in doors locked and one window only slightly ajar!)
“Hey lady, call a tow truck, will ya? Don’t call the cops, just call me a tow truck”
This was long before cell phones so I took off for home and a phone. My honey heard the story and he said firmly, “Oh, no, I don’t care what the guy said. The law is the law. Call the police.”
That driver was afraid of the law for some reason. Are you afraid of the law? Have you been taking the Old Testament too literally? Maybe it’s because you don’t know that when Jesus died for us he turned the law into love. Now we love him because he first loved us.
This is the diagnosis.
Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.( 1 John 3:4, NIV)
This is the cure.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16, NIV)
Prayer- Thank you God, that when we don’t know what is good for us, you are willing to teach us. Amen.
