Yes, I read it wrong. His name is actually Eliphaz the Temanite! That got me checking out termites. There are over 3000 varieties and they are close relatives of the cockroach. They are helpful in recycling wood unless that wood is your house. They live everywhere except Antarctica. Apparently, they are quite tasty because some cultures eat them.
Turns out that a Temanite isn’t that far from a termite. Eliphaz, came from a place known for its wise men. (Jeremiah 49:7-11) I think he thought himself to be a little bit better than Job.
Beware the friend who comforts you with incorrect ‘God’ words and adds to your personal misery. Eliphaz blamed Job’s pain and suffering on his ‘secret’ sin.
(Job 22:4-5)
Jesus refuted that thinking.
Jesus saw a man who had been blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?” Jesus answered, “It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents, but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him.
