Have you tried any new fruit lately? Our local market is full of exciting possibilities. Don’t be afraid to experiment.
Did you know that papaya tastes a little like melon and may be eaten raw or cooked while star fruit tastes like plum and pineapple with a hint of lemon? Dragon fruit is sweet and juicy and tastes somewhat like pear, kiwi and watermelon. Passion fruit is ready to eat when the skin wrinkles.
God designed different fruits for our enjoyment in the very same way he designed the fruit the Holy Spirit gives us.
My friend and I both have a speaking gifts but I teach adults while she prefers children. Betty and James each have the gift of hospitality but Betty entertains one on one with coffee, while James enjoys huge crowds and lavish buffets.
Others might share the gift of giving, but one gives out of a modest income while another shares from a six figure bank account.
Does it really matter? The Holy Spirit has given each of us a gift and each is different from the other.
Hebrews 2:3b-5 – This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will (NIV)
Let us be true to our own gift. We cannot make it something that it is not. As long as we are following God’s leading in our lives we cannot go wrong.
Experience taught me to avoid teaching five-year-olds and my friend never takes on a congregation. That doesn’t make either of us wrong. It just makes us obedient.
Prayer: Lord, we thank you for our spiritual gift. Help us figure out what it is and then Lord? Help us make service decisions based on that truth. Amen.
