When I hear the word fast, I think of giving up food to better hear the voice of God. But fast has so many other meanings. They vary from moving rapidly to debauchery, promiscuity or even dishonesty and fastening a door shut.
How do you see the word fast? Perhaps it has to do with our personal life and how we have seen it used by others.
Have you tried the “God” fasting? Here is some advice from Matthew 6.
“When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.(Matthew 6:16-18, NIV)
Since we are isolated for the time being (Remember that I am writing this in March!) it will be easier to fast, won’t it? No one asking us why we didn’t eat our cornflakes or why we don’t need groceries.
Maybe you would like to give it a try. Through this experience you will find time to linger with God and enjoy his fellowship.
Prayer- Lord we are new at this fasting thing. Help us to do it in your way and for your honor. We look forward to our visit with you. Amen.
