Ghost Money

Jehovah Jireh is one of God’s names, meaning “the Lord will provide.” But sometimes it seems like he is not keeping his promise.

The trouble is, most of us have quite enough to live on and then some, but we let ghost money eat into our budget. Ghost money is money we spend on stuff we don’t need. Then we don’t have enough to cover our daily expenses.

If we keep a list of every penny we spend for the next month, we’ll easily discover waste.

Are you a collector of anything?  Eat out several times a week or order take out regularly?

Stop for coffee 2 or 3 times per day? Buy because an item is on sale?

Buy the children treats every time you leave the house? Buy new ‘gadgets’ for the kitchen?

Replace perfectly good items just because you are tired of them? Invest in clothes that need dry cleaning?

And so we yearn for more money…when God has already given us more than enough.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. (Exodus 16:4a, NIV)

Prayer- Lord God, we want to love you, not money. Help us see that our wanting more is often the result of not being content with what we have. Amen.
