There is a cat Facebook picture making the rounds. This cat is as sour as any human I’ve ever seen. The look is funny if we are not the ones wearing it!
Vinegary, vanity, vexed and a multiple of other words describe what we look like when we can’t see our own selves.
Expressions cross our face and some are more pleasant than others. Are we hurt, happy, crying, foolish or surprised? Having a bad hair day or questioning some idea or other?
What if we are sad, mixed up, angry, or talking from both sides of our mouth: think we know it all? Surely we are not pouting, proud or sticking our tongue out? Oh dear Grouchy Cat friend…beware what emotion you are displaying to the world.
Perhaps we should keep some of those emotions tucked away for our home mirror only.
Beware. It might shatter under the pressure of such looks!
It would be so wonderful if we kept some of those expressions to ourselves, like Daniel.
I, Daniel was deeply troubled by my thoughts, and my face turned pale, but I kept the matter to myself. (Daniel 28:8b, NIV)
Prayer- Father God, give us God peace on our faces as well as in our hearts. Amen.
