Some years ago, Bill Wilcox started giving his extra garden produce to the local food bank. Over time, others contributed. Eventually, the project grew into what is now known as the Hamilton Victory Gardens. The first year, they harvested 2200 pounds of food. This year they expect to harvest about 20,000 pounds!
The Hamilton Victory Gardens contain raised beds constructed with concrete blocks and supplemented with rich triple mix to provide a good growing environment. Volunteers maintain the gardens, and immediately upon harvest, deliver the produce to food banks and soup kitchens.
HVG (www.hamiltonvictorygardens.org) aims to transform this Ontario town by cleaning up and using empty neighborhood lots, encouraging volunteerism, and bringing all sorts of people together for a common goal.
You see? One person can make a difference. Who knows where your skills might take you and those around you?
1 Corinthians 12:4-6- There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all (NKJV).
Prayer: Lord, we give you our gifts, talents and skills. Help us take that one small step forward. Please use us today to help someone else. In Christ’s name. Amen.
