Job 19: 25–I know that my Redeemer lives and that in the end he will stand upon the earth (NIV).
The day started off badly. My hair simply wouldn’t lay flat in certain places. My breakfast bagel burned. It was raining and that meant I couldn’t work in the garden. I dreaded the meeting I had to attend. My sinus infection, coupled with straight-up-in-the-air hair, red nose, runny eyes and bad temper certainly didn’t help.
In spite of my not-so-pleasant beginning, I made the effort to read my Bible. The Book of Job gave me a reality check. Job lost 7000 sheep, 3000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, 500 female donkeys, his servants and all ten of his children on the same day (Job 1: 2-3, 13-19). Then he developed terrible sores all over his body (Job 2:7). Yet, Job still remembered this basic truth. In spite of how terrible his life had become, he stood fast on this one thing. “I know my Redeemer lives!”
Is there a bad day brewing in the house today? Will we moan and concentrate on the things that didn’t go our way? Or will we count our blessings and thank God that no matter what, this one thing never changes. “I know that my Redeemer lives!”
Prayer: Oh God, help us see past ourselves to the one thing that really matters……You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
