How Did That Happen?

The engraving said ‘The Lord watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another.’ (Genesis 31:49, KJV) I carried one half in my purse and Ron kept the other half in his wallet. We thought them charming and actually, even holy. After all, it’s a Bible verse, isn’t it?

Then I read the rest of the Genesis and the charms lost their appeal. This is not a verse of love but of warning. How did that become a love sign between Christians?

And this is the original recipe for Ezekiel bread. How did a starvation menu item become a highly desired and expensive food item?

Take wheat and barley, beans and lentils, dried millet and spelt, and mix them in a bowl to make a flat bread. This is your food ration for the 390 days you lie on your side. Measure out about half a pound for each day and eat it on schedule. Also measure out your daily ration of about a pint of water and drink it on schedule. Eat the bread as you would a muffin. Bake the muffins out in the open where everyone can see you, using dried human dung for fuel.” Ezekiel 4:9b-12, MSG

How did that happen? I really don’t know. Do you?

Prayer- Lord, your mysteries confound us. Or maybe it is that our mysteries confound you. For Christ, who died so that we might have common sense. Amen.
