You might not like this one. God calls you through misery! Yes, a general dissatisfaction in life may be God calling you to go deeper; to stop being comfortable with earthly things. At this point, we try to satisfy our discomfort with external things, hobbies, spending, volunteering, and yet, nothing comforts us.
And then God repeats little thoughts in your mind. A name keeps coming up, a study, a phone number…some thought nags at you and it just keeps showing up in your Bible study, your thoughts, a church service and even maybe on the news. It won’t go away. Act on it.
Multiple friends tell you the very same thing. Now do test this one. The Ephesians told Paul repeatedly not to go to Rome, but Paul understood God’s heart and paid no attention.
A prophet took Paul’s belt, tied his own hands and feet and said, “The Holy Spirit says, ‘Leaders in Jerusalem will bind the owner of this belt and hand him over to the Gentiles.’ When we heard this, we pleaded with Paul not to go up to Jerusalem. Paul answered, “I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die name of the Lord Jesus. “We gave up and said, “The Lord’s will be done.” (From Acts 21:10-14, NIV)
And then, occasionally… God speaks in an audible voice. We’ll discuss that tomorrow.
