Is It Luck Or Is It God?

We here almost every day. “Boy, aren't you lucky,” or  “Well, that was luck.” Is it luck or is it God? As Christians, we should be looking toward God for all our daily needs. Don't buy into the daily horoscopes or the fortune tellers and palm readers. Always, always go to God with your questions. He above all knows you better than you know yourself and only He knows the plans He has for you.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.” Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NIV)

Back in the Old Testament, God was perfectly clear with the Israelites that they put no other “gods” before him.

“You shall have no other gods before me.” Deuteronomy 5:7 (NIV)

When people put your faith in horoscopes, fortune tellers, palm readers, astrologers, etc., that's exactly what they're doing, putting their faith in other “gods.”

But God is the One True God.

God creates each and every one of us with a specific purpose in mind. He knows us even before we are born.

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you.” Psalm 139 :13-18 (NIV)

Knowing God is God, who formed the world out of nothing and nothing was made that was made without Him, why would anyone ever consult anything other God about what God has planned for them? In fact, God tells us not to more than once.

“When someone tells you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?” Isaiah 8:19 (NIV)

Luck is nothing. God is everything.

Next time someone walks up to you and says, “What luck!”

Tell them, ” Nope, it's all God.”

I’m reminded of a bit by Mike Warnke about wishing him “luck.” I believe he cited, as an example, the time he was in a firefight (while in the military), ammo whizzing all around him, and he gets pinned to the ground by an arrow. I’m also reminded of a quote by Pastor Mark Balmer of Calvary Chapel, Melbourne (FL). “There are no CO-incidences, only GOD-incidences.”
