Just As I Am

Oh don’t we think we’re clever; so much smarter than our ancestors. Our new gadgets give us freedom they never had and they are too slow to pick it up.  Oh ye, we are so smart. They believed God just because God said so and we are too smart for that. Oh yes we’re so smart.

We are just as greedy, just as foolish, just as dissatisfied, you see.
We’re every bit as weak as our ancestors used to be.
We’re as jealous as Cain* was; as vain as Babel’s* crowd.
No better than past dictators, just like them –too proud.
Yet God in his kindness loves us more than we know.
Still listens to our pleas—“Just as I am- Yes, it’s so.

Just as I Am, Without One Plea
But that thy blood was shed for me,
and that thou bidst me come to thee,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

*Cain – Genesis 4, Babel – Genesis 11.

The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. (Matthew 8:8, NIV)

Prayer – Lord, we yell for justice, when you’ve already given it… Justice—just us—just as we are. Amen
