Just the basics

Do you have one of those recipes that just give you the basics? You know, eggs, flour butter, and milk and then you add any favourite or on hand items like nuts, chocolate chips or coco nut? Me too. Here is the basis for a loaf you might enjoy.

Start with three lightly beaten eggs, 1 cup of canola oil, (Nobody said this was calorie free!), one cup of white/brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Blend these together.

In another bowl, mix together 3 cups of flour, 2 teaspoons of cinnamon, one teaspoon each of baking powder and baking soda. Gradually add this to the first mixture. Do not over mix!

Now your creativity jumps in. Add two cups of anything, well–ALMOST anything!  I like to use one cup applesauce and one cup of grated carrots. THEN I add things like raisins, nuts and seeds.

This makes two loaves and you can put different things in each one of you like. The usual rules apply-put the batter in greased loaf pans and bake at 350° F for 50-60 minutes.

This is great as a loaf but the advice is not so good when it comes to our faith. Keep to the basics in that or you will find yourself led astray-far from the truth of Christ.

Jesus said to him, “I am the [only] Way [to God] and the [real] Truth and the [real] Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.(John 14::6, AMP)

Prayer – Lord even as we change up our recipes, keep the truth of Christ unchanged in our hearts and minds. Amen
