Just Friends

‘Just friends,’ he insisted. ‘We’re just friends.’ ….But suddenly they divorced their spouses and set up house together.

Those friendships seem so insignificant when they first begin. ‘Are you eating alone? Let’s lunch together. Oh, let me give you a ride to choir practice. No sense in taking two cars. Oh, yes my husband is away but come in for coffee, why don’t you?

Emotional and physical affairs have the power to lead us astray. Danger signs include any secrecy involving the friendship, poor accountability, no third party involvement, and contact out of the ordinary.

If you find yourself in such a position, stop EVERY BIT of contact with the other person immediately. Protect both yourself and your family, by praying hard and while you are praying, run as fast as you can toward God.

Colossians 3:5- So kill (deaden, deprive of power) the evil desire lurking in your members [those animal impulses and all that is earthly in you that is employed in sin]: sexual vice, impurity, sensual appetites, unholy desires, and all greed and covetousness, for that is idolatry (the deifying of self and other created things instead of God) (AMP).

Prayer: Lord, deliver any of us who are drawn away, who totter to the slaughter. Hold us back from our doom. You, who know and guard our hearts, know our deepest truth. Let us never say we didn’t know certain things were wrong. Keep us from the things that would destroy us lest you have to render to us what we richly deserve. Amen. (From Proverbs 24:11-12)
