Just the Seasoning

1 Corinthians 12:12-14Your body has many parts-limbs, organs, cells-but no matter how many parts you can name, you are still one body. Its exactly the same with Christ. By means of his one Spirit, we all said goodbye to our partial and piecemeal lives.

We each used to independently call our own shots, but then we entered into a large and integrated life in which he has the final say in everything. (This is what we proclaimed in word and action when we were baptized.)

Each of us is now a part of his resurrection body, refreshed and sustained at one fountain-his Spirit- where we all come to drink. The old labels we once used to identify ourselves- labels like Jew or Greek, slave or free, are no longer useful.(MSG)

It’s turkey time again and I’m up to my elbows in stuffing. While seasoning the bread cubes, the label catches my eye. POULTRY SEASONING INGREDIENTS- thyme, sage, rosemary, marjoram, pepper and nutmeg. Aren’t they just little pinches of this and that, integrated into a larger, more full-bodied taste, now indivisible?

That’s what we are. Little pinches of Baptist, Free Methodist, Presbyterian, Anglican and so many others, integrated into one in Christ. We are teachers, preachers, encouragers, givers and discerners, all using our gifts for Him. We are men, women, teens and children, all with one goal, to love the Lord Jesus with all our hearts, souls, minds and strengths.

Prayer: Lord, help us season our world with the essence of you, not the fleshly divisions of ourselves. In Christ's name. Amen.
