Colossians 1:11– [We pray] that you may be invigorated and strengthened with all power according to the might of His glory, [to exercise] every kind of endurance and patience (perseverance and forbearance) with joy (AMP)
The year draws to a close but our life issues continue. I am still a member of weight watchers. My workout pal nudges me into daily exercise.
You might well ask, “Brenda, are you thin?”
No I am not but I am thinner and I am definitely healthier. (Anyway the sin is gluttony, not overweight. The Bible says that ‘we are ‘light’ in the Lord. : ) (Ephesians 5:8)
I no longer binge and purge. Now I am a gourmet, a connoisseur, who carefully selects and savours every bite. Most of the time, I’m in command of my taste buds and hunger because I have spiritual self-control.
The Holy Spirit gives spiritual fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control, (better known as self-restraint or continence.) However, we still have to live them out in the physical. (Galatians 2:22-23)
Some addicts are healed instantly. Their hearts no longer desire chocolate, bread or other assorted evils. I want to be happy for you. (Really! I do!) However, that is not how the Lord has dealt with me.
The gourmand uses food to comfort, but a gourmet delights in the comfort of the Holy Spirit. Over time, the gourmet me is winning out because I want the Holy Spirit to fully enjoy his home. After all, our bodies are his temple. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
Prayer: Lord, be our comfort. In Christ's name. Amen.
