Lighthouses flash their lights to guide and warn ships. They know their job and they do it well. We never see a light house running all over the sea chasing down a ship or dragging itself into an earthquake zone to save a nation. No. A lighthouse stays where it is planted and does what it is designed to do.
Jean’s quiet life spoke a quiet witness to God. When she died, the church was full to capacity. Young and old came to pay their respects. One after another, they exclaimed, “You knew you were in the presence of God when you were with her.”
Jean’s light may have considered minuscule to some, but she was a stalwart for Jesus, even though her life was small by the standards of many.
“You are the light of the world….In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:14a, 16, NIV)
Prayer – Dear God, give us the grace to faithfully shine our lights for you, even when we think the beam is too small to be of any use. Amen
