More Than Sympathy

‘Here's a song for you to sing in the dark times’, wrote my long-distance friend Fern. She knew I was having an MRD (Missing Ron Day).

Trusting Jesus

Simply trusting every day,
Trusting through a stormy way;
Even when my faith is small,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Refrain

Trusting as the moments fly,
Trusting as the days go by;
Trusting Him whate’er befall,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Okay, I’ve sent messages like that too. Nice. The Bible is full of trusting verses and I do trust.

Isaiah 26:4-Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength: (KJV)

Hebrews 4:15-For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin (ESV).

But Fern took it one step farther. She added these words. ‘I'll sing it with you!’

Sometimes we need more than sympathy. We need a Jesus with skin, someone who understands our pain and will stand in it with us.

Job 2:11- Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that had come upon him, they came each from his own place, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. They made an appointment together to come to show him sympathy and comfort him (ESV).

Prayer: Father, may we be a ‘Fern’ to someone today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
