My Momma’s Birthday

This day means lots of things to people around the world but for me, it is mostly about my Mom’s birthday. How is it that an Icelander can be born on an Irish holiday?

Sometimes our relationship was rocky. She had the straightest conscience ever. She even took back groceries that she got by mistake. She never deviated from the truth. She called us to a higher standard of goodness.

She made sure that we went to Sunday school, yet she seldom joined us for church and she was not a Christian until much later in her life.

He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.(Matthew 5:45b, NIV)

What kind of heritage do you have? Somewhere amidst the mess of remembering, there were good times and we are old enough now to let ourselves forgive and remember them.

The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage. (Psalm 16:6, KJV)

Prayer – Father, help us remember the good times, and relish them over the bad. For Christ, Amen
