Nailed

What woman doesn’t complain about their nails at one time or another? Mine never recovered from a frosty cold winter and now suffer from weeditis. Surely you know about weeditis, the ever present tug-of-war with summer weeds.

That led me to thoughts about nails in general and Christ’s in particular. No matter what, his nails always look the same.

Thomas doubted them.

John 20:25- The other disciples therefore said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” So he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”

Christ used them on our behalf.

Colossians 2:14-Having cancelled and blotted out and wiped away the handwriting of the note (bond) with its legal decrees and demands which was in force and stood against us (hostile to us). This [note with its regulations, decrees, and demands] He set aside and cleared completely out of our way by nailing it to [His] cross.

In light of this, the condition of our own nails seems rather trivial.

Prayer: Lord we seldom sense the depth of your gift to us. Today gives us a little glimmer of your sacrifice. Thank you, God. Amen.
