Someone sent me an article called Fifty Reasons to hate Thanksgiving; all of them petty. If you are determined to be a Negative Ninny, I’m sure you’ll find a bunch too. Try these moaners on for size.
“I hate turkey. There are too many leftovers. I throw out too much food. I have to meet family. There will be an inquisition about why I am not yet married/pregnant etc. I eat too much. Travel will be brutal. It’s followed by terrible Black Friday.”
Need I go on?
There are more than 100 Bible verses about giving thanks. If you are determined to hate everything Thanksgiving then you won’t like these verses.
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:18, NIV)
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. (1 Chronicles 16:34, NIV)
Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name. (1 Chronicles 29:13, NIV)
I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness; I will sing the praises of the name of the Lord Most High. (Psalm 7:17, NIV)
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” (Matthew 26:26, NIV)
Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! (Romans 7:25, NIV)
I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus (1 Corinthians 1:4, NIV)
I could go on, but the point is that thanksgiving is more than a day, it is an attitude. Be thankful friends. All the things we complain about would make someone else very happy, because they have nothing.
Prayer- Lord, forgive us our Negative Ninny attitudes. Help us to love and be loved with gratitude. Amen.
