Jesus was a root vegetable kind of person. Note John 15:17, where he speaks of root commands. No flossy lettuce for our Lord. He compared roots to love; and why not.
Root vegetables include yams, beets, parsnips, turnips, rutabagas, carrots, yucca, kohlrabi, onions, garlic, celery root (or celeriac), horseradish, daikon, turmeric, jicama, Jerusalem artichokes, radishes, and ginger.
Root veggies are available all year round and are chock full of nutrients. They cleanse your system, help you feel fuller and regulate your blood sugar. No wonder Jesus loved them.
What is at your root? I trust it is love, as our Lord commanded.
“But remember the root command: Love one another. (John 15:17, MSG)
My little children let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. (1 John 3:18, KJV)
Prayer-Father, help us, root out any part of us that is unloving and help us to love as you want us to love; for the Christ. Amen.
