Me? Why I never gossip…do I? Still, let’s ask ourselves these questions, just to be sure.
Do I habitually talk about the personal details of people’s lives?
Do I ‘share’, not caring or paying attention to whether the details are true or false?
Do I love to hear and then share a little hearsay, a small title-tattle, or some sort of scandal?
Do I relish the chance to pass on a story?
Do I especially delight in a malicious rumours that could cause hurt, harm or pain?
Do I swear my listener to secrecy, as they do me?
The Bible says that gossip goes down into our inmost parts. (Proverbs 18:8, NIV)
That’s our deepest, most private, secret and personal place. Why, that’s the very spot God created.
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. (Psalm 139:13-14, NIV)
Do we really want to pollute that special place with gossip? No, I didn’t think so.
Prayer: Lord, help us please keep our mouths shut about the affairs of others so that our own special, created by You, spot, stays as pure as when You designed it. In Christ. Amen.
