Notes from the Past

“Again today, Ron and I experience grace, God’s riches at Christ’s expense, through what the world calls the trauma of cancer. Again today, we strive to conquer its wickedness.

Laughter surrounds us as the pleasant staff deal with multiple needles, various blood products and chemo. Subtle phrases like chemo suite—help us pretend that we lodge in the finest hotel. Here we are clients, not patients. No one uses the C word. We all pretend that it doesn’t affect our particular section, our lounge chair.

There is no talk of death or dying because that would give the cancer more power and we refuse to help it administer its evil.

When a newbie arrives, terror on their faces and in their bodies, Ron jollies them into a smile and soon we are all once again on the same path. Joy in the midst of what could be called an entrance to death. Once again God’s grace overwhelms the diagnosis of cancer.

No matter what life event we face, God is in it with us, prepared to offer joy if we would but choose it.”

And be not grieved and depressed, for the joy of the Lord is your strength and stronghold. (Nehemiah 8:10b, AMP)

Prayer –  Lord, thank you that you strength is sufficient, no matter what we face. For Christ who faced it all on our behalf. Amen
