What do we generally say or think about old ladies? A quick web search revealed pages about their supposed sex lives, menopause, dirty jokes and disrespectful humour. Other meanings included old woman, cougar, hag and ball and chain.
You know we will all be old someday… yes, even those of us who disrespect our elders now will one day be old. I pray we will be like Anna, instead of living up to the lousy terms we use for the elderly in our midst now.
Anna, a prophet, was also there in the Temple. She was very old. Her husband died when they had been married only seven years. Then she lived as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the Temple but stayed there day and night, worshiping God with fasting and prayer. She came along just as Simeon was talking with Mary and Joseph, and she began praising God. She talked about the child to everyone who had been waiting expectantly for God to rescue Jerusalem. (From Luke 2, NLT)
Prayer – Lord, draw us to your side, so that we might live up to your expectations, not those of the world. Amen
