Respect the Elderly

It may be a family member, even a spouse, perhaps a friend, caregiver and even staff in a seniors’ care facility. This person may be financially, physically or even sexually abusive to the elderly person in their care. These are criminal actions that are seldom reported because the elderly fear reprisal.

Oh we boast, “I have not done THESE things.”  No, perhaps not, but how many holidays has your ‘elder’ spent alone, without card, call or care? Neglect comes in a variety of levels.

Stand up in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the Lord. (Leviticus 19:32, NIV)

All old people were once young. So dear abuser…your family and friends will remember how you treated the elderly in your life. It will be their guide mark for your treatment as you age.

Prayer-Father God, forgive us for our unkind, neglectful or even abusive actions toward the seniors in our life. Help us start afresh…We beg their forgiveness. In Christ. Amen.
