The car made an illegal turn, careened around the corner and aimed straight for me. I moved back just as he swerved. We were on a head-to-head collision course. I froze. Thankfully, he didn’t and so years later, I am here to tell the tale.
We pray in much the same way. We stand in the middle of the road, giving no clear direction to God about our wishes, desires and needs. “Oh bless them, Lord we cry and God must wonder what that looks like. Are we praying financial help, healing, or spiritual wisdom? If we can’t decide, why should God?
When God blesses, we always know what He means.
Genesis 1:22- And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let the fowl multiply in the earth (AMP).
Genesis 5:2-He created them male and female and blessed them and named them [both] Adam [Man] at the time they were created (AMP).
Matthew 13:16- But blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) are your eyes because they do see, and your ears because they do hear (AMP).
Maybe we could be a little less lazy with our prayers and give God just a hint of what we mean. Yes I know He knows but we need to as well. Otherwise how will we know He answered?
James 1:7-8-For truly, let not such a person imagine that he will receive anything [he asks for] from the Lord, [For being as he is] a man of two minds (hesitating, dubious, irresolute), [he is] unstable and unreliable and uncertain about everything [he thinks, feels, decides] (AMP).
Standing in the middle of the road leaves us in danger of hit and runs from all directions.
Prayer: Lord, may our prayers (and our lives) always have meaning, direction and focus. In Christ. Amen.
