Roaring Lions

When I read this verse, I wondered how lions attack their prey, hoping for insight on how to protect myself and others from Satan’s attacks.

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8)

Lions stalk their prey and, when close enough, attempt a short charge on their prey, trying either to pounce on their target or knock it over. (Do you understand now why Ephesians 6 puts so much emphasis on standing?)

Lions favour open woodlands and thick scrub, the type of landscape that allows them to get as close to their prey as possible without being seen. (This is why we need to live in the open, not hiding our sins away, hoping no one will notice)

Lions prefer to hunt at night, or perhaps early morning or dusk, or even on cooler day. In other words, lions are lazy and prefer their prey to come to them. Note they also do not like the light! That’s why we must walk in the light!

“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12).

They attack from the back. Note, God gives frontal armour only! Advice, never turn your back on a lion. (Ephesians 6)
