September 2009 was designated as National Gospel Music Heritage Month by Congress last year and is being celebrated in Christian entertainment broadcasting circles. The Gospel Music Channel, The Recording Academy, The Gospel Music Association and the Gospel Music Workshop of America and The Stellar Awards are all joining together to share the rich history of gospel music. The Gospel Music Channel will air network premieres, documentaries, concerts, original specials and series and music videos each weekend. Special Saturday night-long tributes to top contemporary Christian music artists include Third Day (Sept. 5), Michael W. Smith (Sept. 12), tobyMac (Sept. 19) and Kirk Franklin (Sept. 26).
