Yes, a sheepish ewe…or me! Below are some sheep terms… and the similarities to God’s human sheep.
Devil’s Grip – a serious conformation defect.
God spoke to Cain: “Why this tantrum? Why the sulking? If you do well, won’t you be accepted? And if you don’t do well, sin is lying in wait for you, ready to pounce; it’s out to get you, you’ve got to master it.”(Genesis 4:6-7, MSG)
Wigging – the removal of wool from around a sheep’s eyes to prevent wool-blindness.
Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up. (1 Peter 5:8, MSG)
Dipping – immersing sheep in a plunge or shower to kill external parasites
John the Baptizer appeared in the wild, preaching a baptism of life-change that leads to forgiveness of sins. (Mark 1:4-6, MSG)
Dear Sheep – Here is the answer to our sheepishness…
Jesus didn’t hesitate. He reached down and grabbed his hand. Then he said, “Faint-heart, what got into you?”(Matthew 14:31, MSG)
Prayer – Lord may we be sheep, not sheepish, when the good shepherd, Christ comes for us. Amen
