I guess by now you’ve cleaned the silver, got out the good dishes and special serving plates. After all, tomorrow is Christmas. That’s when we use the good stuff, right? Birthdays, Easter, Christmas wouldn’t be the same without special dishes.
The truth is that special dishes aren’t for special occasions, but for special people. Who are the special people in your lives? Aren’t they the ones you see everyday? Of course they are. They are the ones who should feel special.
A nicely set table is a small way to make people feel important and it costs nothing but a few minutes of washing time. Try using those special dishes for a non-birthday party or just because you got a raise or just because it’s been an awful day. However you use them, more than twice a year is a good choice
Don’t put your good things away on the 26 of December. Use them on the 27, then maybe on January 15 and May 27. You get the idea; even if you live alone; or maybe because you live alone…
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:9, NIV)
Prayer – Lord, we are grateful that you see us as special to you, all the time! Amen
