Tell Somebody

Do you know anything about your family history? I thought I knew lots but I wish now that I’d asked so many more questions, some of them silly really. I found myself wondering if Mom ever had long hair.

This is the little I know of my parent’s story.

Mom left Manitoba to work at a war plant in the Toronto area. She met and married my Dad, all within three weeks.

At the tender age of ‘I don’t know’ we three flew to Lundar where my farmer Dad got a job as a swing shift worker on the caterpillars that delivered supplies across the frozen lakes of the north. (See his books Two Years North of 53 degrees and Letters from North of 53 degrees) After two years of frostbite, we were back in Ontario with a baby brother in tow.

Not much is it. Are you any better? Did your parents tell you more or for that matter have you told your kids anything about your life?

Matthew thought it worthy to document Jesus’ genealogy. Here are some of the highlights.

This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham:…Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah. …This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about. (Matthew, Chapter 1)

I hope you tell your story before it is too late.

Prayer- Words, Lord, words that we ignore or don’t speak and that we miss. Give us a head start on them now, today, for the future to come. Amen.
