The COMMAND

Jesus said…

“A new command I give you: Love one another.

As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

By this everyone will know that you are my disciples,

if you love one another.” (John 13:34-35, NIV)

Three times in these very few lines, Jesus commands us to love one another.

HE COMMANDS US TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER!

He does not give us an option to love some and not others.

He does not say: if your skin colour matches.

He does not say: love those who vote the same as you do.

He does not say: love only those in your neighbourhood.

He does not say: love only those of your social status.

He does not say: hate those people whose sins differ from yours.

He does clearly say: Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. (1 John 4:20, NIV)

For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. (Matthew 7:2, NIV)

Prayer- Today, Lord Jesus, we bring to you the names of people we have not loved. Help us Lord to love as you love, for the very existence of our families, our cities and our country. Amen.
