The Golden Rule

Well we are making headway, friends. A popular ladies’ magazine just added a monthly devotional column, written by a Christian! Yes! I am delighted to report that Candace Cameron Bure is the new devo author in Woman’s Day magazine. She announced her life verse which is Esther 4:14.

For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place and you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14, NIV)

In this difficult season, it is a good verse for all of us. Why are we here? What should we be doing about the mess the world is in? But I am only one person you say. What can one person do? Esther was only one person.

She realized the risk.

Any man or woman who comes unsummoned to the king, will be put to death, unless the king holds out to him the golden scepter so that he may live. (From Esther 4:11)

She took on the task and she prepared and she accepted her fate.

Go, assemble all the Jews, and fast for me; for three days.  I and my maidens also will fast.  I will go in to the king, and if I perish, I perish.” (From Esther 4:16)

She dressed for the occasion.

Now it came about on the third day that Esther put on her royal robes. (From Esther 5:1)

Friends, what can you say or do to lighten the load for another? Perhaps it might be as simple as offering a kind word instead of joining the complaining and whining of others.

The following verse is often described as the definition of good or the maximum ethical principle.  “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. (Matthew 7:12, NASB)

Prayer- Lord while we are whining about our life circumstances, others are making a difference. Help us be one of those for such a time as this. Amen.
