Ezekiel 3:3- And he said to me, “Son of man, feed your stomach, and fill your body with this scroll which I am giving you.” Then I ate it and it was sweet as honey in my mouth (NASB).
What kitchen product never goes bad? That’s the question our local radio station asked. Here’s a little hint! It is not transfat, hydrogenated, artificially flavored cookies! No! It’s honey! Because honey has a natural preservative, it never spoils!
While honey may crystallize, a few seconds in the microwave returns it to its original, smooth, spreadable state. I took the announcer at his word and hauled out the frizzled jar of honey from the back of my cupboard. Sure enough, a few seconds of heat and the unpalatable was once again desirable.
Like honey, the Bible never goes bad. It is our preservative. When a particular passage seems crystallized, or hard to swallow, God warms our hearts, making those words as sweet as honey in our mouths.
Psalm 119:105– Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light to my path (NRSV).
Prayer: Lord, we prefer a soft, sweet, easy-to- swallow Word. When those hard, crunchy bits show up in our daily Bible readings, give us courage to face your heart warming with obedience. Amen.
