True Identity

Just when you think you’ve found your true identity, someone shows up who doesn’t. Take this funny story about Simon and Simon/Peter.

In Acts 10:4-6, Cornelius prays and an angel brought him his answer. (Talk about a clear answer to prayer!) And note that not everyone trusts Peter to be Peter and not Simon. (Never fear. God knows who we really are.)

Cornelius stared hard, wondering if he was seeing things. Then he said, “What do you want, sir?” The angel said, “Your prayers and neighborly acts have brought you to God’s attention. Here’s what you are to do. Send men to Joppa to get Simon, the one everyone calls Peter. He is staying with Simon the Tanner, whose house is down by the sea.” (Acts 10:4-6, MSG)

Simon is staying with Simon! How funny is that!

Cornelius’s men showed up at Simon’s front door to ask for Simon…also called Peter. (17-20)

But Peter (now not either Simon!) gets directions from God and he follows them completely. Basically, he preaches his own story.

Peter fairly exploded with his good news: “It’s God’s own truth, nothing could be plainer: God plays no favourites! It makes no difference who you are or where you’re from—if you want God and are ready to do as he says, the door is open. (Acts 10:34-36, MSG)

Prayer- Father, when others don’t trust our conversion, make it clear to them by the way we live, following you in every way. Amen.
