Trusting Words

The weather man tells us snow is on the way and we get rain. Politicians, preachers and other public figures say so many things that turn out to be untrue. Who/ what can we trust?
One might think the great hymn writer Charles Wesley, wrote from a calm spirit and a peaceful, untroubled life but this is not so. He lived through a time of political turmoil, defeat of kings and the loss of six of his nine children.

In spite of that he wrote hymns like ‘Jesus, lover of my soul’; ‘And can it be that I should gain’; and ‘Oh for a thousand tongues to sing.

We can trust words like that because they were inspired by the truth of the Bible.

Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. (John 17:17, KJV)

Prayer- Lord, thank you for writers like Wesley who wrote almost 7000 hymns, each full of faith in God alone. Help us to live what we sing. Amen.
