Luke 22:54-and (they) took him into the house of the high priest. (NIV)
When Jesus visited the home of the high priest, he was captive to the will of owner of that house. He was prisoner to the traditions held there and hogtied to the desires of the high priest.
There’s an old Red Sovine song called “If Jesus came to your house.” Oh, say the lyrics, you’d give him the best room, but would you have to change your clothes, hide a few inappropriate magazines and search around for a Bible to put in their place? Would your language change as quickly as the TV channel? Might you start saying Grace before meals?
That high priest didn’t care about these things. He thought he was right in what he did, but if he’d asked Jesus…
If we have asked Jesus into our life, his spirit is present in our bodies and because we are in our houses, our businesses and our schools, he is there too. He moved in when we did. Are we conscious of what we do in his presence? Do we care what the creator of the universe thinks about our actions, behaviors, and our thought life? Do we really understand that Jesus is watching sorrowfully as we overeat, cheat on our taxes, gossip about a friend and yell at our kids, parents or spouse?
Revelation 3:20-Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. (NIV)
Prayer: Lord, forgive us for the sins we commit in your very presence. Help us see our life from your perspective. Amen
