Whatever and Why Ever

It is all Ben Franklin’s fault, apparently. He bemoaned the fact that the sun was up and he wasn’t. “Let’s save candles.” He cried. “We will all get up earlier and go to bed sooner.” I might have got the wording wrong but that was his scheme. He didn’t take care nor thought of those who don’t do well in the morning.

During the First World War, Germany and then Britain took it on and therefore had more daylight for the fighting, I guess. Later it was the farmers who insisted we rise with the sun.

The trouble then as now is that not everyone switches. Different areas are on different time zones right in the same country. For instance, In the USA, Hawaii and Arizona opt out, as do Puerto Rico, the U. S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and Guam.

In Canada, Fort St. John, Charlie Lake, Taylor and Dawson Creek in British Columbia, Creston in the East Kootenays, and most of Saskatchewan (except Denare Beach and Creighton). Do not go Daylight savings.

Can you imagine the confusion this creates? You drive 5 minutes out of your town and you are in another time zone. When you journey home you reverse the timing.

Thank God for something and someone that always stays the same.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8)

Prayer- Lord, we are so grateful that you are who you are, forever and ever. Amen.
