Care calls when you are making other plans. Some time ago, Dad was waiting for cancer surgery, Mom had Alzheimer’s and I lived close to them. All of a sudden, their life became my life. Another family member needs help. My beloved sister-in-law passed. I had a deadline for my latest book. My personal family lacked attention.
Did I collapse? No. I didn’t have the time. Care was needed and I gave it. Did everyone appreciate what I was doing? No. Those who didn’t help had plenty of suggestions for me.
I clung to Paul’s words in Philippians.
But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.
(Philippians 1:18, NIV)
I learned long ago that my life has only one purpose; to grow to be more like Christ. And in fact, God gave me the strength to do all that I had to do. Friends, he will do the same for you.
The Lord God is my strength [my source of courage, my invincible army. He has made my feet steady and sure like hinds’ feet and makes me walk forward with spiritual confidence on my high places of challenge and responsibility.
(Habakkuk 3:19, AMP)
