A casual comment from a neighbor and my special roses lasted more than two weeks.
“Put ice cubes in the bouquet every day,” she said. “And the flowers will last much longer.”
How is that possible? How does freezing promote life? Is it all about the stress of everyday life? How different our characters would be if everything, every day was sweetness and light.
Never would we develop patience or purity or anticipation of good things. Our heads would droop from boredom and we would expire with no anticipation of the eternal life to come. We would think we’d had it all here on earth. Thank God for the icy bits of life!
Yes, of course, the flowers eventually died, as we all will at some point. However, death here is the beginning of new life in Christ, with Christ.
The one undying thing that we can cling to, no matter the ice in our lives, is the word of God, The Christ.
The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” (Isaiah 40:8, NIV)
So friends, welcome the ice of life for in it is our length of days.
Prayer- Thank you, God, for loving us enough to send the icy bits to us so that we can learn to bloom in spite of them while displaying your glory to the world. Amen.
