When Truth Hurts

I am speaking the truth in love. When we focus on God instead of people, we are in touch with the one who really can make a change.

“Here’s what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won’t be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace. (Matthew 6:6, MSG)

Stop expecting better behaviour from others than you are willing show. If you are acting childishly, why do you expect others to act like adults?

We have expectations: they let us down. We react childishly: they get angry. The situation is tense. After a while —hopefully—everyone cools down.

The story repeats itself again and again until one of us changes our behaviour, lowers our expectations and stops expecting other humans to meet our needs.

You see, it can’t be done. God is the only one who knows what we need and the only one who meets that need.

Prayer- Father, show us our silliness and help us act with love toward all, yes Lord, all—even those with opinions not our own. Amen.
