Daniel was taken captive as a teenager. He told the truth no matter what. Daniel stood firm when others demanded he serves idols. In fact, he survived a session in a lion’s den. (Daniel 6:22) Daniel became a well-respected leader under four pagan kings.
Where did all that truth and integrity come from? The same place it does for us all, the very beginning, with seemingly unimportant choices.
He started well and finished strong.
Daniel was one of several captive young men without any physical defect, handsome, showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well-informed, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king’s palace. (Daniel 1:4)
But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way. (Daniel 1:8)
Christians know we should take care of our bodies, but do we? What would happen if we treated our bodies with the same wise living that Daniel did?
According to the Book of Daniel, great things come from obedience in small things.
