Why Work?

Probably most of us would be happy just to linger on a lounge chair and watch the world go by, but no, work we must. We work mostly because we have to, don’t we? There are bills to pay, mortgages to keep up and foodstuffs to buy.

The Bible gives a very different reason to work, no matter which Bible version you read.

Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. (Ephesians 4:28, KJV)

Did you use to make ends meet by stealing? Well, no more! Get an honest job so that you can help others who can’t work. (Ephesians 4:28, MSG)

Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need. (Ephesians 4:28, NIV)

So friends, whatever bills you have, the biggest one is right here. Help those who need it.

Prayer- Father God, give us the courage to trust your word, even with our paychecks. Amen.
