When heartbreak such as this strikes a community, often our first inclination is to ask, “Why?” The world around us may ask, “Why would God let this happen?” But as Christians, our first response should be an outpouring of love and comfort to the families of all those involved. It’s not within us to understand God’s plan or to see the larger picture of a tragedy like this, but we can rest assured knowing that even in the darkest of times, God’s light will shine through. The psalmist David asks, “When all that is good falls apart, what can good people do?” The answer is clear: we can look to the Lord for our strength. In Him our faith lies and He is our Tower of Refuge. Instead of trying to rationalize out the thoughts of God, we should lift our prayers up for the families of Pastor Winters, the brave congregants that stepped in, and the assailant.
