Roundabout us the world is in suffering and turmoil. People around the world suffer in refugee camps. Millions of children die of malnutrition every year. Monsoons displace people, floods rail through neighborhoods. Poverty, famines and war attack unsuspecting everyday people just like us.
How do we respond? The Bible always gives a clear plan but here are the highlights. Remember that when we give to others we are actually giving to the Lord and we are giving in his name so:
1. Respond with generosity
As the Scriptures say, “They share freely and give generously to the poor. Their good deeds will be remembered forever.”(2 Corinthians 9:9, NLT)
2. Respond with cheerfulness
You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” (2 Corinthians 9:7, NLT)
If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. (Romans 12:8, NLT)
3. Respond with generosity, not your leftovers
Honor the Lord with your wealth, and with the best part of everything you produce. (Proverbs 3:9, NLT)
Prayer- Father you are the greatest giver of all time. Help us to respond in kind to those who need help. For the one who constantly helps us, Jesus, Amen.
