Thanks to the veterans

With today being Veterans’ Day, the best thing to say is, “thank you.”

Oftentimes around holidays it’s easy to view common greetings as trite for no reason other than their constant repetition. On this day giving thanks to our veterans and the sacrifices of their families is something which shouldn’t be viewed as too repetitive.

As an educator, we are always reminded to add relevancy from the world around us to drive home lessons taught. Last week’s shootings at Fort Hood and the various Afghanistan deployment options being considered by President Obama are sobering contemporary reminders of the stresses and strains of military service.

So for the sake of simplicity — and not just brevity — if you’re a veteran and are reading this, thank you.
