So it’s July 1st, Canada Day and July 4th is Independence Day in the United States. There will be fireworks, flags, food and fun. Then what?
What if we all prayed? Here is missionary Terri Payk’s true story.
I felt that the Lord was calling me to pray for the needs of the world. A newspaper article explained that an Afghanistan law that would forbid people from testifying against family members. It would tie the hands of victims of domestic and sexual abuse and allow perpetrators free reign.
I felt that Jesus wanted me to pray that this law would not pass. I spent the next two weeks in focused prayer for this need, and especially for their President who had the power to veto it.
About a week before the law would become law; the President announced that he would not sign it. I was ecstatic! A prayer that I said – directly related to an international issue of governmental policy – was answered!
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. (1 Timothy 2:1-2, NIV)
Prayer- Lord, we crave change in the world, to see your kingdom come on earth. Help us to remember to do our part by praying for the changes we long to see. Amen
